Ann’s Heart Awarded $1 Million Federal Grant to Purchase the Sacred Heart Campus

Kristen McGee
A significant step towards securing the $3.5 million needed to create permanent home for a hub of nonprofit services in Phoenixville

Phoenixville, PA: April 25, 2024 - Ann’s Heart (annsheart.org) was awarded a $977,573 federal grant from the U.S. Congress Community Project Funding.  We are excited to announce that with this grant, we have raised the capital to execute the first goal of our 3-year, $3.5M REPROJECT initiative (www.annsheart.org/reproject) to purchase, maintain and renovate the property, and expand programming with our nonprofit partners. This grant allows us to purchase the Sacred Heart Campus from the Archdiocese of Philadelphia and advance our journey to create a permanent home for Ann’s Heart and the nonprofit partners that serve Phoenixville and the surrounding region.

The 3-year REPROJECT initiative has three goals:

  • RETAIN - raise funding to purchase the campus by end of Q1 2024 ($2M)

  • RESTORE - address maintenance issues and enhance ADA compliance ($1M)

  • REIMAGINE - expand our programs and build out additional spaces on the campus for nonprofit partners to increase the services offered at Ann’s Heart ($500K)

The federal grant will allow Ann’s Heart to finalize the acquisition of the property (RETAIN) and begin necessary renovations to make it ADA compliant, including new accessible restrooms, ramps, lifts, and signage (RESTORE).

Ann’s Heart and the nine nonprofit partners that use this location currently provide educational programs and low-barrier, year-round access to supportive and professional services, along with a weather-dependent emergency shelter. Future visions for the property include adding on-site transitional housing for individuals and families experiencing homelessness and expanding the space for additional community nonprofit partners (REIMAGINE).

“This ensures the establishment and enduring presence of a non-profit hub dedicated to delivering critical human services in our region," Kristen McGee, Executive Director shared. "Through this welcoming space, we are committed to continuing our fight against housing and food insecurity, supporting mental and behavioral health, and combating the isolation of our most vulnerable community members.

“We would like to thank U.S. Rep. Chrissy Houlahan and U.S. Sen. Bob Casey for their efforts in securing the funding for Ann’s Heart,” says Laura Winters, President of the Board.
