About the Role

Ann’s Heart, a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization based in Phoenixville, PA, is hiring up to 10 overnight and day-time staff to operate the Code Blue Program (CBP) at CERAH. The CBP is an emergency overnight center open to men and women that operates mid-November through mid-April (start and close dates dependent on weather). This is a seasonal part-time position, offering up to 30 hours a week.

Staff members are responsible for conducting the day to day operations of the CBP during guest hours; for providing a safe, clean environment; and assisting guests staying at the CBP. Staff is also responsible for keeping accurate documentation.

Shifts are listed below. Up to two volunteers per shift may be provided each night to assist the staff member in opening/closing the CBP, welcoming guests, serving coffee and meals, and helping to monitor guests throughout their stay. Training is required and will be facilitated by Ann’s Heart.

Staff responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Opening and/or closing the building;
• Conducting an interior inspection for safety or identifying maintenance concerns;
• Setting up cots, setting out supplies, and preparing the CBP for guests (opening shift);
• Cleaning and sanitizing tasks;
• Supervising volunteers and assigning tasks;
• Providing trauma-informed support, with training, to guests;
• Directing guests to resources as needed;
• Conducting intake for new guests and providing an orientation;
• Maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for all guests and volunteers;
• Providing daily reports of CBP activity to the Program Manager through provided channels;
• Completing necessary paperwork in a timely manner;
• Attending a weekly staff meeting/call to review the progress of the program;
• Attending & completing the following trainings:

- Mental Health & Nonviolent Crisis Intervention
- Trauma-Informed Service
- CPR/AED Training
- Basic First Aid
- Code Blue Operations

Salary & Hours

Salary: starting at $15.00/hour Hours: Up to 30 hours per week

Shifts Available:
Monday - Saturday: 7:30 PM – 2:00 AM / 2:00 AM to 8:30 AM
Sunday: 2:00 AM – 8:00 AM / 7:30 AM - 12:30 PM / 5:30 PM – 2:00 AM

Qualifications & Expectations

Staff members must possess good verbal and writing skills, have reliable transportation to and from the CBP (including during inclement weather), and be easily reachable by phone, email, and/or text messages.  Staff will be responsible for their assigned shifts. Should changes be required, staff will coordinate coverage with other staff  and/or Staff Supervisor no less than 24 hours prior except in the event of emergency. Staff members must be able to remain calm in stressful situations, and balance compassion with the ability to set boundaries and adhere to program rules.  


This position is subject to a monthly performance review.  All applicants will be subject to a full background check, including State and Federal criminal history, and child abuse clearances. Staff members must be able to lift and carry up to 25lbs.
